Project Papuk 2024 - health status of forest

Assessment of the Health Status of Forest Ecosystems in Papuk Nature Park Based on Vegetation Condition Indicators Derived from Satellite Imagery, with Linking of Results to the Croatian Forests Database

Client: Geonatura d.o.o.

Role: GIS

This project focuses on evaluating the health status of forest ecosystems within Papuk Nature Park through the analysis of vegetation condition indicators derived from high-resolution satellite imagery. By employing remote sensing techniques, the study assesses key vegetation parameters that reflect forest vitality and potential stress factors across the park. The innovative aspect of this research lies in the integration of the derived vegetation health indicators with the existing database of Croatian Forests (Hrvatske šume). This linkage allows for a comprehensive understanding of the spatial patterns of forest health in relation to forest management practices, species composition, and other relevant silvicultural data. The results of this assessment provide valuable insights into the current condition of Papuk Nature Park's forests, enabling the identification of areas exhibiting signs of decline or stress. This information is critical for informed decision-making regarding forest management, conservation efforts, and the development of strategies to maintain and enhance the long-term health and resilience of these valuable ecosystems. The project contributes to the growing field of remote sensing applications in forest health monitoring and provides a robust framework for future assessments within the park and beyond.
